121 - Natures Artwork, The Wave, Utah
Back in 2010, I had been working on a permit to hike into The Wave near Kanab, AZ - but it wasn't happening so I decided to fly it instead in one of my Cessna aircraft. I must have slow circled over the area for an hour shooting mostly vertical perspectives of crazy patterns and formations. So this was shot out the window of a Cessna 182 from 500 or 600 feet above the ground at a speed of around 70 knots with a Canon 1DS MKIII & 70-200L. This formation isn't really the actual 'Wave' area but near where the 2.2 mile trail starts. Camera is pointing down at maybe 20 degrees off vertical, so the top of the frame (south) is a little further away than the bottom. This is a sandstone ridge that slops from the left side of the frame down to the right. Scale-wise, I would estimate the distance from bottom to top to be maybe 400 feet. And THAT was a really fun day.
